Area code 364 entered service on March 3, 2014 as Kentucky's first overlay area code, covering western and south-central Kentucky over the existing 270 territory. Originally planned as a geographic split in 2007, the plan was repeatedly delayed by number conservation measures, suspended in 2010, and ultimately replaced by an overlay decision in December 2012.
